Description: GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES This Senior Analyst I position is a member of the Community Health primary work team and contributes to the advancement of local public health practice by performing a range of responsibilities related to development, implementation and sharing of diabetes control and prevention programs at the local level. General responsibilities include program evaluation and qualitative data collection and analysis; report writing; translating findings into tools and resources; communication of findings to the field; program and budget management; and project promotion. NATURE OF WORK This is an advanced professional position that requires a degree of specialized training and/or knowledge in case study techniques, writing, program management and diabetes control. The work involves collaboration with other staff, associated professional organizations and groups, and state and local health departments. The work also requires the exercise of extensive discretion, independent judgment, and a high level of accountability. WORK DUTIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Research and Writing ? Develop and implement interview guides and other qualitative data collection instruments and tools, conduct telephone and in-person interviews, and perform other data-gathering functions to develop case studies on local health department diabetes control programs. ? Summarize interviews and produce a compilation of case studies to disseminate to local health departments. ? Prepare proposals, progress reports, budgets and other reports to funders as needed. ? Coordinate and prepare written summaries of project meetings, including workgroup meetings and conference calls. Policy Analysis ? Track current diabetes prevention and control-related issues and policies. ? Support the Chronic Disease Workgroup in developing and promoting diabetes prevention related policy statements as necessary. ? Review and analyze major policies regarding diabetes control and related chronic disease issues that affect local health departments and prepare and disseminate related issue briefs, resources and tools to NACCHO members. ? Work collaboratively with NACCHO’s Government Affairs staff to identify, track and promote diabetes and related chronic disease prevention policy. ? Prepare analysis reports, including implications for public health practice. Project Planning and Coordination ? Participate in long-term project planning, including identifying future activities and additional funding to support diabetes control activities. ? Provide staff support to and gather input to guide project activities from the Chronic Disease Prevention Workgroup as appropriate. ? Ensure integration of the project with other NACCHO projects, especially Maternal and Child Health, Adolescent Health, Tobacco and Infectious Disease. ? Serve as lead staff and primary liaison to project participants, collaborative organizations and funding agencies. ? Oversee maintenance of project Web pages and other online resources. ? Identify appropriate individuals to serve on external committees related to the Diabetes Control and Prevention project. ? Represent NACCHO (through presentations, exhibits, etc.) at meetings/conferences related to diabetes control and prevention as needed. Project Promotion ? Coordinate webinars highlighting diabetes control and prevention best practices and coalition building. ? Create and disseminate training methods and materials, including but not limited to, pamphlets, handouts, reports, CDs, videos, data collection templates, promotional and recruitment materials, and materials to promote diabetes control and prevention issues at the local health department level. ? Provide technical assistance, as appropriate, in the use and adaptation of the materials and methods. ? Coordinate project-related training activities, policy briefings, meetings, and other special events. Other ? Perform other duties, as needed. ? A low level of travel is required for this position.
   
Compensation: Starting Range: $52,369 to $64,938
Qualifications: Education/Experience: Master’s degree in Public Health or related field and three years of experience in a public health setting, or Bachelor’s degree with five years of such experience, is required. Specialization in diabetes control and prevention and/or chronic disease policy and practice strongly preferred. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have worked in a local or state health department. Knowledge ? Knowledge about diabetes control and prevention and/or chronic disease policy and practice ? Knowledge of public health practice at the local, state and/or national level ? Knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment Abilities ? Ability to collect, interpret and explain research findings and project outcomes both orally and in writing ? Demonstrated ability to analyze research and evaluation findings and identify implications for public health practice ? Demonstrated ability to independently design and manage project activities ? Demonstrated accountability for completing high quality work within time requirements ? Ability to effectively represent NACCHO in a variety of settings ? Ability to think critically ? Ability to work independently ? Ability to work effectively within a team ? Ability to track and manage budgets Skills ? Interview and qualitative data collection and analysis skills ? High level of Microsoft Office computer skills, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Excel ? Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships ? Preparing and presenting research findings in oral and written form ? Strong organizational skills ? Excellent oral and written communication skills ? Strong analytical skills ? PREFERRED: Experience conducting interviews and collecting and analyzing qualitative research
