This is a professional position in the Community Health Services Bureau of the Public Health Division, Department of Human Services. The programs in this Bureau provide the full range of public health services to improve and maintain the overall health of infants, children, pregnant women and women of child bearing age desiring family planning methods. The health care is provided through Maternity and Child Health Clinics, Family Planning Clinic, and Nursing Case Management for at-risk families.
This position works part time in the clinical setting and part time in case management. Clinic assignments include all Maternal and Child Health services, such as Well Child Care, Family Planning, and Maternity. This Public Health Nurse will be cross-trained to work in all clinics. In addition, this PHN functions as a member of the Connected Families Case Management Program which serves families with children 0 through 5 years of age. Each Public Health Nurse, with the assistance of an interpreter if needed, visits referred families for assessment, and follow-up, if necessary.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
case management and care coordination of an assigned caseload;
providing nursing care in the clinical setting as a member of a multidisciplinary team;
working in all clinics, Family Planning, Maternity and Child Health;
giving immunizations in Open Immunization Clinics as well as other clinics;
maintaining appropriate records and documentation to meet local, state and federal requirements;
providing health education to clients, families and the community; and,
participating in emergency preparedness activities, as needed. |

| Compensation: |
$43,368.00 - $71,718.40 Annually
|
| Qualifications: |
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing plus one year of experience as a Registered Nurse in general nursing and/or community/public health nursing.
Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Desirable:
a) Masters Degree in nursing or public health;
b) experience in maternal and child health or related field;
c) experience in home visitation-related programs;
d) experience in providing case management services; and/or
e) bilingual ability in English and Spanish.
Special Requirements:
Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia or eligible to receive such license or licensed in a compact state. If eligible, candidate will be allowed 60 days to obtain license.
Applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator’s license from the applicant's place of residence, or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide, a copy of their official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant’s driving record.
A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates who are selected for employment. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.
