NUTRITIONIST BILINGUAL – SPANISH/ENGLISH
$28.74 to $34.30/Hour

One part time vacancy for 30 hours per week in the Division of Public Health, HHS Health Clinics and the Women, Infants and Children’s (WIC) Program. Open and Continuous / Open Until Filled. THE POSITION: Under general direction, incumbent will work within a multidisciplinary team to promote improved pregnancy outcomes for high-risk pregnant women with pre-existing diabetes and women who develop diabetes while pregnant; gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Will conduct nutrition screening, assessment and counseling to prenatal and postpartum women, infants, and children, on various nutrition related diseases in the Marin County WIC Program and the HHS Health Clinics, OB Services department. The ideal candidate possesses good oral and written communication skills, both in English and Spanish, the ability to be proactive in development, implementation and/or evaluation of agency protocols and policies; ability to develop and implement in-service and continuing education programs. This position will work with and in the community to promote healthy eating and ensure access to healthy food as well as provide direct nutrition education services.
DUTIES: Duties include but are not limited to, in both Spanish and English:
HHS Health Clinics, OB Services
• Work within a multidisciplinary team to promote improved pregnancy outcomes for high-risk pregnant women with pre-existing diabetes and women who develop diabetes while pregnant; gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).
• Conducts nutrition screening, assessment and counseling, and implements nutrition care plans and develop meal plans for low and high risk patients with diabetes, pre-diabetes, gestational diabetes, hypertension, obesity, hyperlipidemia, etc.
• Develop and facilitate group nutrition education classes (i.e. diabetes, healthy eating, weight management, etc.)
• Attends all relevant internal and external meetings pertinent to the program.
• Assists in data entry and retrieval and other quality improvement efforts of the department.
• Assists in the development and evaluation of culturally relevant nutrition education materials.
• Maintains documentation by charting notes in the patient’s chart.
Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program
• Evaluate participant eligibility, conduct dietary assessment, counsel and prescribe appropriate food package;
• Oversee the referral of participants to a provider for medical nutrition therapy (MNT);
• Communicate with physicians regarding WIC participant issues as needed.
• Review requests for alternate and therapeutic formula per state WIC program and local agency protocol.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed in the class specification. Typically, equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, or closely related field, and one year of experience in community nutrition. A Master's degree in Public Health Nutrition, which included studies in community nutrition may be substituted for the experience requirement. Positions assigned to Women’s Health Services may be required to have one year of experience as a nutritionist in perinatal nutrition programs.
Certificate: Current registration as a Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration or eligibility for registration.
Bilingual Certification: This position is a bilingual position and the successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency in both Spanish and English prior to appointment. A bilingual proficiency exam will be administered at the time of selection to ensure the candidate possesses the appropriate skill level to meet the requirements of the position.
