Description: THE POSITION: This is a full time, end-date position renewable twice a year (March 31 and September 30), depending on the availability and maintenance of funding. More than one opening may be available contingent on funding. Under the direction of the Healthy Communities Program director and designated staff, the program assistant provides program and related administrative support for nutrition and physical activity promotion and effective food use to clients with limited resources. The incumbent works as part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Connections team to deliver community programming to limited resource caretakers and their children in several community settings. In addition, the program assistant will train, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate and graduate students providing coordinated education. The incumbent will assist with program evaluation and be responsible for completing required reports and perform related duties as required.
   
Compensation: Commensurate with education and experience
Qualifications: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: • Good writing and communication skills • Strong interpersonal skills, which includes the ability to work with individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds • Organizational ability that will allow for effective team participation and maintenance of records • Ability to provide programming at a variety of sites throughout Connecticut MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor's degree in nutrition, public health, health education, or a closely related field • A demonstrated commitment to community nutrition programming and at least three years experience delivering creative approaches to nutrition education. Other highly desirable but not required qualifications include registration as a dietitian with the American Dietetic Association and fluency in Spanish.
