Description: The UW School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to serve as Program Officer for the Healthy Birth Outcomes Initiative. Supported and directed by the School’s Wisconsin Partnership Program (WPP), this initiative aims to reduce racial and ethnic health disparities in birth outcomes in Wisconsin. The WPP promotes health research, education, practice, and policy through its statewide grant making programs. The WPP may invest up to $10 million over the next five to ten years for the initiative. The Program Officer will play a critical role in developing and managing the Healthy Birth Outcomes Initiative, provide leadership and coordinate local programs designed to address complex health issues, gaps in the delivery of health services, and improve maternal and child health outcomes in the state. The position will establish new partnerships and alliances that further the goals and objectives of the initiative. The successful candidate will have at least seven to ten years of relevant experience, an extensive network in the government and not for profit public health environment, and a strong base of maternal and child health program and policy knowledge and experience. Candidates should demonstrate success in developing and managing collaborations and partnerships across multiple sectors and with diverse constituencies in large metropolitan and urban communities. Salary is negotiable. Graduate degree in the public health or health care field preferred. Applications must be received by March 13, 2009. Compensation: Minimum $46,452 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications
Qualifications: Seven to ten years of organizational management and project development skills with nonprofit or public, community-based or philanthropic organizations, or public institutions operating in this field Strong base of maternal and child health program and policy knowledge and experience Experience in working with African American communities and culturally competent health service delivery. Demonstrated success in developing and managing collaborations and partnerships across sectors and with diverse constituencies and communities, including state and local business and government leaders Familiarity with large metropolitan areas and urban communities and a thorough understanding of the complex healthcare landscape in Southeastern Wisconsin, and especially Milwaukee, including inter-relationships between community-based organizations, providers of medical services, employers, foundations, community clinics, other healthcare organizations, and the public sector A proven record of accomplishment as a self-starter who can develop and launch programs with strong strategic and analytical skills Excellent written and oral communication skills to represent the program in diverse forums and organizational relationships Demonstrated ability to balance multiple complex projects and priorities Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and in a team-oriented environment Ability to travel including site visits and representing the program at outside meetings and to spend the majority of time in communities in Southeastern Wisconsin and in Milwaukee
