Description: Program Description: Through an Anti-Homophobia and Transphobia Project, Advocates for Youth provides tailored training, strategic technical assistance, and small seed grants to community-based organizations to redress homophobia within the local community and create safe spaces for GLBTQ young people 13-24 years old, in particular youth of color. Advocates for Youth conducts an “internet intervention” by and for GLBTQ youth, produces information and materials for youth service providers, conducts trainings and workshops around GLBTQ sensitivity issues; and develops advocacy campaigns which are inclusive of GLBTQ youth issues. Summary Description:The Program Manager for GLBTQ Initiatives will expand Advocates’ work on GLBTQ youth issues and sexual health. Activities include conducting trainings, workshops, and presentations to national, state, and local audiences; providing technical assistance; collecting information and preparing materials; developing resources on ongoing and “model” projects, particularly those focusing on African American/black and Latino/Hispanic youth; maintaining an internet intervention for GLBTQ youth and youth service providers; and recruiting, training, and supervising an online peer education program. Responsibilities: Prepare and conduct trainings, workshops, and presentations on the national, state, and local level, as needed. Provide technical assistance to national and community-based, youth-serving, minority organizations. Respond to oral and written requests for information about gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (GLBTQ) youth and sexual and reproductive health issues, model programs, research, and evaluation. Develop working relationships with national, state, and local GLBTQ organizations, sexual and reproductive health organizations, and minority organizations. Act as a resource for partners. Cultivate new contacts and linkages to further Advocates’ mission and expand project effectiveness. Develop and maintain an “internet intervention” for GLBTQ youth and GLBTQ service providers. Recruit, supervise, and train online peer educators. Research, draft, and disseminate materials, including training modules, regarding sexual and reproductive health issues for GLBTQ youth, in particular African American/black and Latino/Hispanic youth. Work with Director to formulate work plans, timelines, and activities designed to achieve program goals. Write monthly reports on GLBTQ Initiative for inclusion in HIV/STI’s monthly report. Write quarterly newsletter on GLBTQ youth issues for youth-service providers. Help to integrate GLBTQ issues with other Advocates’ projects. Assist with fundraising proposals. Supervise intern, as appropriate. Other tasks as assigned.
   
Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of four years of programmatic experience in one or all of the following with GLBTQ youth issues: adolescent sexual and reproductive health; HIV/STI prevention; family planning; peer education; advocacy; and organizing. A strong interest in HIV/STI prevention. Candidate should have demonstrated experience working with national organizations, community-based organizations, youth-service organizations, and minority organizations. Must have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication, organizational, and management skills; candidate must be a team player. Candidate should also have demonstrated technical skills in training, program development, preparation of written materials, evaluation, and public speaking. Ability to balance multiple activities at once. Commitment to Advocates for Youth’s mission and goals. Able to travel.
