Description: Objective/overview of the Program The overall goal of the Health Promotion and Family Health Program is to improve the quality of life and eliminate health disparities along the United States-Mexico Border. The expected result of the program is to strengthen institutional capacity and provide guidance for policy and programs to promote health of the family and improve quality of life along the Border; support the implementation of strategies and policies that can improve the social determinants of health, and contribute to building awareness among different opinion leaders, policy makers and stakeholders of the importance of healthy public policies for the communities along the United States-Mexico Border. Organizational Context Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the United States-Mexico Border Office of the Pan American Health Organization, the Health Promotion and Family Health Program Officer supports the technical cooperation project and activities to achieve the expected results in the Biennial Program of Work and is responsible to oversee the budget assigned is used as a contribution to achieve the mission of the Organization; analyzes public policies in Mexico and the United States directly affecting the population on the Border, coordinates with the media; supports existing initiatives and mechanisms for bi-national collaboration in the strengthening institutional capacity to promote health and wellbeing: contributes to creating, implementing and assessing new mechanisms for bi-national collaboration to assess the social determinants of health, facilitates collaboration among relevant stakeholders to improve the health of the people on the Border; and provides follow up on strategic agreements and partnerships.
   
Compensation: Yearly salary: $42,625 (Net of Taxes)
Qualifications: Education: • Bachelor’s degree in a health or social science discipline. • Masters degree health promotion and/or public health. Experience: • At least eight years of work in the area of public health, in family health and health promotion. Skills: • In depth knowledge on the health situation as well as the health systems of Mexico and the United States of America • In depth knowledge of border culture • Excellent verbal and written communication • Excellent project development, research and health analysis skills • Demonstrated capacity in scientific writing • Knowledge of Microsoft Office. Other IT skills and knowledge of other software programs would be an asset. Languages: Fully bilingual English and Spanish General: This position requires extensive traveling. A valid driver’s license and passport valid at the time of hiring are required. Candidates must be legally entitled to work in the United States of America.
