Description: JOB TITLE: Public Health Director Salary: $50,000 Full-Time Position (40 hrs a week) REPORTS TO: President & CEO JOB SUMMARY: The Public Health Director will convene an interested coalition of vision partners including NYSDOH, in a collaborative effort to develop a State Vision Preservation Plan at the City and State level. This project is being funded through a grant from the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Develop an assessment protocol that solicits information in the following areas: Increasing access to care; conducting disease prevention/health promotion activities; data collection and surveillance; collaborative relationships with state agencies and public and private organizations; and information systems that could incorporate vision related data and strategies for obtaining such information. With the assistance of PBA and PBTS directors, identify New York City/ state programs to compete the assessment. Conduct the assessment using protocol. Enter all information in a database for future use in integration efforts. Prioritize programs for integration that considers an established range of factors. Contact the director of each division representing the prioritized programs, solicit input about the optimal approach for integration and formulate a strategy and timeline for taking necessary action. Develop and implement the integration approach in a sample of agency programs. Expand the number of agencies programs that agree to integrate vision related activities into their program efforts. Utilize an assessment protocol similar to the Vision Loss/Blindness Prevention Project to identify current program activities and challenges faced by each organization and what the state should to do address vision problems. Incorporate and promote recommended strategies through existing programs, services and other mechanisms. The Public Health Director will be required to travel about 33% (1-2 times per week) between Albany and NYC. The home-based for the Public Health Direction will be in New York City, but may also have an office in Albany. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB DUTIES • Identify, evaluate and prioritize state agencies with a related vision agenda for the potential for integrating vision-related activities; • Develop and test a systematic approach to integrate vision health activities; • Complete an assessment of vision preservation activities among state and local agencies and organizations; • Encourage the inclusion of public health activities for vision preservation into the ongoing programs, services and/or data collection efforts of health care plans/providers, local agencies and community based organizations. ** These essential job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed. Compensation: $50,000 a year
Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s degree with related experience • Five years or more of experience coordinating public health and social science initiatives, grant writing and program administration with proven successful track record. • Ability to distinguish what is significant and to set priorities. • Ability to carry on simultaneously a variety of programs and activities. • Excellent verbal and written skills.
