The Bureau of School Health-Office of School Health (BSH-OSH) provides direct school health services to over
1.3 million General education school children in this city. Without this position, BSH-OSH will not be able to meet the legislative mandates governing school health services in New York City.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Director of the Vision and Hearing Program, the Director of the Pre-Kindergarten Program will oversee the Vision Screening Program in which Public Health Advisors will use the Welch-Allyn Sure Sight autorefractor to screen pre-kindergarteners, age four (4) for vision problems. The Director will have overall responsibility for supervising staff and ensuring that all targeted schools are scheduled and screened and parents are notified of results; will be responsible for planning and coordinating program operations in Vision and Hearing Contract Projects. The projects will include, but not be limited to, vision screening and eyeglass provision to pre-kindergarten and middle school students; developing and maintaining mechanisms for reporting and data entry; establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with project operators in setting schedules, monitoring field activities, and reporting problems to the Director for resolution.
