| Description: |
CTCRE represents a partnership between UCSF faculty and the Legacy Tobacco Documents Library (LTDL) housed in the Kalmanovitz Library . UCSF is a leader in tobacco control research and the LTDL was the first to make proprietary, tobacco documents, accessible on the Internet. In addition, the LTDL developed an index and thesaurus for tobacco documents, which have become international standards. Currently, the LTDL includes the British American Tobacco Document Archive as well as paper-based collections. LTDL provides Internet access to more than 50 million pages of tobacco documents under the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement between the tobacco industry and 46 state attorneys general. The Library ensures that the information remains fully accessible to scholars, health advocates, journalists and the public. Full access is critical to continued research as under terms of the Master Settlement Agreement the tobacco industry may remove existing documents from their own Internet sites in 2008. |
