| Description: |
The School of Education, Health and Society at Miami University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor position with an interdisciplinary focus on family-school-community connections, beginning in August 2009. This position builds on the division’s commitment to interdisciplinary work that generates new solutions for critical familial, educational, and community issues; major emphasis is strengthening connections between families, schools, communities, and human service agencies to foster the health, education and well-being of children, youth, and families in urban environments. Research/teaching focus could be interpersonal violence, literacy and reading problems, delinquency and substance abuse, academic achievement issues, developmental disabilities, culturally proficient practice, children’s mental and physical health, and the multiple contexts in which these issues persist.
Appointment would be in one of the five departments in the School Education, Health, and Society. Candidates should be able to teach interdisciplinary courses on family-school-community connections, as well as disciplinary courses in the home department; maintain a productive research agenda, and provide service to the university. We are especially interested in applicants with interdisciplinary expertise in urban contexts, as well as expertise in pursuing external funding and engaging in interdisciplinary research and demonstration projects.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in education, family studies, social work, health, or a related field by time of the appointment; knowledge of or experience with multicultural populations; extensive record of high quality research and university teaching required for appointment as associate professor. Desired Qualifications: experience with linguistically diverse learners and/or international experience; previous university teaching; expertise with urban settings; grant experience.
Screening begins December 1, 2008. For more information, contact search co-chairs, Dr. Elise Radina at 513-529-3639 (radiname@muohio.edu) or Dr. Sally Lloyd at 513-529-6867 (lloydsa@muohio.edu). |
