Description: The Bureau of Maternal, Infant and Reproductive Health (BMIRH) promotes sexual, reproductive, maternal, prenatal and infant health; seeks to reduce disparities in access to care; and educates and empowers New Yorkers to make informed, responsible and healthy choices in their sexual and reproductive lives. JOB DESCRIPTION: The Maternal Mortality Review Project Assistant duties will include: • Ensure data requests and approvals are kept up to date • Work with project manager to complete data request applications • Request medical records for identified cases from hospitals • Ensure all cases have complete basic data sources in files • Set up and maintain Maternal Mortality and maternal morbidity case files and data spread sheets • Develop relationships with hospital personnel to assist in obtaining maternal health and mortality information, • Develop relationships with personnel in NYS DOH biometrics division (SPARCS), NYC DOHMH IRB,OVS, OCME, - to assist in obtaining case records for maternal mortality • Coordinate the Maternal Mortality Review Committee meetings including: researching relevant literature, public policy and news items applicable to meeting subject matter, organizing materials to be distributed at the meetings, organizing follow up on specific items discussed at the meeting, arranging sub-committee meetings as necessary • Develop relationships with key members of the Maternal Mortality Review Committee and ACOG to assist in the exchange of information relevant to MMRC work
   
Compensation: $49,004- $69,170 (Plus pro rated differential of $597 for possession of an appropriate Master's Degree).
Qualifications: epidemiology from an accredited college or university; or 2. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by eight credits in the physical or biological sciences; or a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, and successful completion of PRINCIPLES OF EPIDEMIOLOGY (#3030-G), a course for health professionals, given by the Centers for Disease Control, U.S. Public Health Service; plus one year of full-time paid experience as a health professional in a position which requires the reading and interpretation of hospital medical charts and complex medical information, in order to ascertain the medical condition of patients. NOTE: NEW YORK CITY RESIDENCY IS REQUIRED WITHIN 90 DAYS OF APPOINTMENT.

Other: PREFERRED SKILLS Knowledge of obstetrical issues including maternal health and pregnancy outcome. Excellent organizational skills, Ability to communicate with hospital administration, excellent writing skills. Knowledge of Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, and ACCESS.
