SENIOR NUTRITIONIST. *$4,565 to $5,457/Month. Opens on July 7, 2008. One full time vacancy in the Division of Public Health, Women, Infant and Children's (WIC) nutrition program. Demonstrated bilingual proficiency (read, write, and speak) in both Spanish and English is highly desirable (*up to a 5% assignment differential is paid for use of bilingual language skills). THE POSITION:
Under general direction, incumbent will provide nutrition counseling to a high-risk multi-cultural, diverse population including children, provide lead direction to staff nutritionists, paraprofessionals and support staff in the day to day delivery of nutrition services to Marin County WIC clients. The ideal candidate possesses good oral and written communication skills, facilitation skills, ability to be proactive in development, implementation and/or evaluation of agency protocols and policies; ability to develop and implement in-service and continuing education programs. This position will work with and in the community to promote healthy eating and ensure access to healthy food as well as provide direct nutrition education services.
DUTIES:
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Organizes and coordinates the work of nutritionists, paraprofessionals and support staff in the day to day delivery of nutrition services in a specialized public health project, clinic or program.
• Prepares and conducts orientation and training for new employees.
• Designs and implements in-service and continuing education programs.
• Provides input for employee performance evaluations.
• Interprets policies, laws and regulations related to nutrition services to staff and clients.
• Assists with staffing needs and the selection of new staff.
• Makes recommendations related to administrative problems.
• Compiles and uses records, reports and statistical information.
• Meets with individuals, groups, and community organizations to provide consultation about services, referrals and follow-up activities.
• Provides direct nutrition services as needed.
• May assume duties of a Supervising Nutritionist during the latter's absence.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed. Typically, equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Foods and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences or closely related field and two years of experience in public health nutrition. A Master's degree in Public Health Nutrition (MPH) may substitute for one year of experience.
CERTIFICATE:
Current registration as a Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
