The Nutrition and Outreach Coordinator will assist the Nutrition Education Program Director in planning, developing, directing, administering, and evaluating the Eat Well, Play Hard in Child Care Centers (EWPHCCS) Program in New York City and in evaluating and researching additional avenues for nutrition and physical activity curricula. This Federal program delivers nutrition education to staff, children and parents associated with child care centers in New York City.
Duties will include:
- Coordinate development and delivery of a Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program in eligible New York City Child Care Centers;
- Maintain evaluation protocol and report evaluation outcomes according to City, State, and Federal guidelines;
- Assist the Nutrition Education Program Director in preparing annual reports, policy development and strategic planning of Nutrition Education Program activities;
- Foster a team environment by participating in team meetings, planning and communication activities;
- Assist the Nutrition Education Program Director in preparing funding proposals, and other communications about the Nutrition Education Program;
- Examine Federal and State Food Stamp Nutrition Education Guidelines and apply to programming activities;
- Contribute to needs assessment activities for the Nutrition Education Program;
- As needed, represent the Nutrition Education Program Director at City or State level meetings;
- And, as needed, assist the Nutrition Education Program Director with supervision and evaluation of staff involved in delivery of nutrition education.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
Strong background in public health and nutrition. RD strongly preferred. Ability to apply nutrition knowledge, nutrition education processes, and community nutrition or public health concepts. Experience conducting training and nutrition education for health-related and child care professionals and consumer audiences. Excellent analytical skills and knowledge of nutrition and physical activity programs and approaches for obesity prevention. Experience working in a team environment to develop strategic programs.
Experience Required:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
1. A Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A Master' s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time experience in the appropriate field of specialization, including one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to (1) or (2) above. However, all candidates must have a Master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity as described in (2) above.
