Description: We are seeking an organized and detail oriented public health student to help us compile Animal Response Plans for each of the 27 communities in our region. This plan is intended for use by communities in Massachusetts Public Health Emergency Preparedness Region 4b and their partners. The plan should serve as a guideline for implementing immediate action to provide care and control of animals displaced during an emergency situation. The importance of emergency animal response plans was highlighted during the response to Hurricane Katrina, when it was discovered that the majority of pet owners are unwilling to leave their pets behind, even in the face of life threatening circumstances. The template for this plan is already created, but the intern will be responsible for community research, and adapting the template to meet the needs of each town. The intern will also be responsible for communicating with key stakeholders in the 27 communities to assure plan information is accurate and plausible.

Qualifications: •Excellent written and verbal communication skills •Ability to work independently, prioritize, and meet deadlines •Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word •Experience working with local public health and emergency preparedness issues helpful •Experience conducting community research is preferable •Access to a car

Other: Intern must have a car. This is an unpaid internship opportunity.
